Driven by a certain fascination on military and a simple shaped nationalistic ideology young men travel the world to fight at frontlines of recent conflicts. Five volunteering warriors from europe and the US were walking into battle in Ukraine last year. Ben, Alex, Craig, Charlie and Cowboy made it to the frontline joining the right-wing militia Right Sector (Prawji Sektor) to defend Ukraine by fighting seperatists and russian irregular forces aiming to split off the eastern Donbass region from the country.
As ukrainian forces are short of servicemen Right Sector is welcomed to support the defense efforts at hotspots. Receiving no payments but shelter, food and ammonition the foreigners selfmade battlegroup Task Force Pluto found itself in a so called Anti-Terror-Operation close to the Donetsk Airport. Though Minsk II Agreement for Ceasefire is in effect several daily fire exchanges taking place between both conflict parties at the line of contact. However the war is now fought in a World War I alike stalemate in muddy trenches which were digged during the World War II.
As a loose union of individuals the Boom Stick Brotherhood is no certain ukrainian phenomenon and not tied to the recent war only. If things would become boring, crazy or if the army leadership would deter foreigners from fighting Ben and his comrades would move on looking for another destination around the globe to be involved in battle. That´s what they are aiming for. They are living a dream of smoking guns, camaraderie and a simple outdoor life. A lifestyle devoted to look every day into the ugly face of death.
The Boom Stick Brotherhood is a multi-national, multi-religious and multi-ethnic group of men in its twenties:
Ben, an austrian infantryman travelling to hot zones since years. Bored and frustrated by his own reluctant national army at home
