The Boom Stick Brotherhood
Does war attracts young men so much to make them leaving home, familiy and a civil life to get involved in brutal frontline battles? Five volunteer warriors from
Europe and the US were walking into battle to support ukrainian defense at its frontlines against the separatist East. Ben, Alex, Craig, Charlie and Cowboy made it there in believe to fight russians, for the ukrainian nation and for reasons to entertain themselves. Basically it could have been any other recent war spot as these young men are driven by a certain fascination on military and a simple shaped nationalistic ideology. Eventually they joint right-wing militia Right Sector which supports the ukrainian army against pro-russian seperatists in Eastern Ukraine.
No compensation is payed but shelter, food and ammo since this foreign selfmade battlegroup Task Force Pluto got involved in the so called Anti-Terror-Operation around the Donetsk Airport where cease-fire is violated in daily fire exchanges between both parties. A stalemate fought in World War I alike muddy trenches initially dugged during the World War II.
The Boom Stick Brotherhood is a loose union of individuals and no particular ukrainian phenomenon. If it comes to a point when this conflict isn´t exciting anymore for the young fighters from abroad, Ben and his comrades would move on, alone or together, looking for another destination around the globe to be involved into battle. That´s what they`re aiming for. Living a dream of smoking guns, camaraderie and outdoor living. An extreme lifestyle devoted to an everyday look into the face of death.
The Boom Stick Brotherhood is a multi-national, multi-religious and multi-ethnic group:
Ben, an austrian infantryman travels to hot zones since years. Bored and frustrated by a reluctant national army in Austria he made plenty of fighting experience in Kosovo, Syria, Iraq and Ukraine.
Alex, Ben´s brother in arms on duty in the austrian army deserted and fled the country to get ultimately involed in frontline battle.
Craig was fighting almost 6 years for the US-Army in Iraq and Afghanistan but got in conflict with the law afterwards. He escaped conviction by going volunteer fighting abroad.
Charlie was totally bored by his ordinary californian routine in Silicon Valley but failed to join the US-Army and French Foreign Legion. Eventually he found battle opportunities in Ukraine.
Cowboy, a petty crook got in trouble with US law only days before his Army unit was to deployed to Afghanistan. Later during a day release he made it from prison to France but French Foreign Legion rejected him. He gave Ukraine a go.
