The Province of Idlib in Syrias northwest was among the first regions participating in the uprising. Some Neighbourhoods of the town of Idlib and many villages around are still controlled by Opposition and Free Syrian Army (FSA). At some villages it is possible to protest safely without any threat by government forces. But by the end of Februar the syrian army has carried out an increasing number of operations to bring the region under control of the government. Attacks on villages with massive use of ground troops and shelling have left many civilians dead. Usually they were executed by cutting the throat or a shot in the head. FSA soldiers cannot defend the inhabitants. Their light arms can´t resist battle tanks and helicopters used by loyal Assad forces.
The people themselves are convinced to have no other choice but to continue their resistance against the Assad regime. In case of surrender they expect to get killed. Syria nowadays is a land of living dead.
